New Directors Elected at Annual Meeting

Friends of the Fresno County Public Library elected three new directors at the annual meeting, April 5, 2008, bringing the number of directors to 14. Elected were Linnea Alexander, a professor at California State University Fresno; Brandon McAvoy, a CPA with Torosian-Walter; and Melissa Moradian, an account executive with Jeffrey Scott Advertising.

Immediately following the business meeting board members elected officers for the coming year: Dusty Guthier, president; Linda Beltramo, first vice president, program; Tanya Nichols, second vice president, membership; Nancy Kast, secretary; and John Slater, treasurer. Other continuing members are Al Owen, James Hallowell, Ken Jorgensen, Lydia Kuhn, Betty Rodriguez, and Karin Temple.

Angela Chi of Watts, Campbell, Chi & Baker Accoutancy Corporation reported on her recently completed audit of the Friends’ financial records. She was highly complimentary of the organization’s handling of its affairs. Karen Bosch-Cobb, county librarian, talked about “The 21st Century Vision for Fresno County’s Libraries” and then introduced John Fairbank of Fairbank, Maslin, Maullin and Associates. John gave the crowd the preliminary results of the just-concluded tracking poll regarding community support for new branch libraries and a new central library.

Debbie Ikeda, Measure L Committee chair, spoke of the need for help in promoting Measure L, which is expected to be on the November ballot.
