Following in the success of the same event last year, the Fresno County Friends of the Library will be partnering with Channel 47, Sierra Vista Mall, A Book Barn in Clovis and other valley organizations for a book drive and sale this August.
On August 8, KJEO Channel 47 Studios will collect donated books at its offices on First Street just south of Shaw Avenue in Fresno.
On August 13 preparation for the sale will begin. Books will be unpacked and sorted by category for non-fiction and children’s books, while fiction will be sorted by author and staged in a separate store. The following week the sale will begin with a pre-sale just for members and booksale partner organizations and before the start of the public sale. The final Rock the Mall concert on Thursday will also bring many families to the sale. Watch your mailbox and Channel 47 for details.
Finally, on Sunday book lovers will be able pay just $5 to fill a bag with the remaining used books of their choice. Last year donations of more than 180,000 books turned into nearly $30,000 to support our libraries.
The money raised supports our branch libraries and is divided based on participation of volunteers. Help your branch by collecting books for the sale, transporting them to Channel 47 headquarters and helping to set-up and sell the books. It is a fun project to work with volunteers from other branches, talk books and authors, sing the alphabet song as you put the books in order, eat homemade treats brought in by volunteers and sell, sell, sell. To volunteer, call Shannon Hunter at (559) 283-5028 or email her at shavka@gmail.com.
