Friends of the Fresno County Public Library is pleased to announce its partnering with comedian Paula Poundstone to raise funds for the library through a concert at the Tower Theater on Saturday, July 17. Paula Poundstone is a stand-up comedian known for her sardonic style and masculine fashion sense, She is an ardent supporter of Friends of the Library groups throughout the nation.

The Friends of the Fresno County Public Library will hold its annual General Membership Meeting on Saturday, February 27th, 2010, at the Holiday Inn in Downtown Fresno. Dan Pessano will be the keynote speaker at the event. Mr. Pessano is the Co-Founding director of the Good Company Players, and recently opened the Dan Pessano Theatre in Clovis. The annual business meeting and election of officers will take place beginning at 11 a.m., with lunch served at noon.

The Fresno County Public Library today announced that it has received another grant from the National Endowment for the Arts to host a third Big Read. The $20,000 grant will be used to promote and conduct community-based reading programs exploring the themes in The Adventures of Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain.

In recognition of the critical need for free, reliable health information in Fresno County, the national non-profit organization, Libraries for the Future (LFF), has awarded the Fresno County Public Library a grant of $25,000. The grant will allow for a full year of Fit for Life programming in 2009 to address physical and brain health with a special focus on pre-school and school age children, teens and their parents.
